Dragon of Krakow
Clive Chandler is making a new piece for theatres. This will involves light and shadows along with object manipulation.
The story is a famous Polish legend - The Dragon of Krakow. It will involve two performers and a vacuum cleaner in an
exciting piece of highly visual theatre.
An application to Arts Council has now been approved and the project has
been awarded a small grant of £6,800 which is enough along with other sources of funding to make this new production.
Work has started and the show will be ready for national and international touring from April 2011.
This new work
will be based on a series of experimental workshop sessions in which Clive explored preliminary ideas back in 2010.
Horse and Bamboo theatre have offered to host rehearsals and development at their base in Lancashire, and pilot
performances will be given there and also in 3 local West Midlands schools.
The piece will be a two-hander
with original music and full sound and lighting. It will be a piece with some scale, including a giant shadow screen 8 metres
wide and up to 5 metres high. It will be suitable for venues of up to 500 capacity.
Dragon of Krakow will
be for children 8+ and their families. It will build on the highly original shadow techniques that Clive pioneered as
director of Tempestade, which was a ground breaking co-production with a company in Portugal.
